For this assignment we were required to produce a video displaying healing(p) communication techniques, especially those of involution and to reflect upon the video then helping us to develop. Johns (2002) specify reflection as a means of bringing together theoretical knowledge and ca ingestion of nursing. I forget reflect to develop my communication skills to hike recoery and discuss their importance. Throughout my reflection, I will use a recognised reflection model. The Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle consists of half-dozen stages and completing one cycle enables me to improve my nursing practice. otherwise frameworks such as, Schlon (1983) and Kolb (1984) were considered but for the purpose of this reflection I will be predominately focussing on the analysing stage of the Gibbs model.

Research shows potent therapeutic communication is more about the trusting kindred than the type of communication used (Alzheimers society, 2006). The importance of therapeutic engagement is vital for mental health nurses to maintain good descents with patients. The primary quill objective of mental health nursing should be to cultivate therapeutic human relationships (Callagham, Playle and Cooper, 2009 p.46). I will look at key engagement skills in building effective therapeutic relationships and why these are important in aiding recovery.





Recovery has been defined as a subjective experience of having regained control over ones life (Knight 2000, cited in Allot and Longanathan, 2002 p.6). light communication prevents the nurse from assessing or helping and alongside a lack of self-awareness potful lead to misinterpretation of someones behaviour (McCabe and Timmins, 2006). A strong therapeutic relationship can better identify patients needs, whilst encouraging manifestation of worries and concerns which may not have previously been revealed. (Letyak, 1995).
