Identity is an aspect of is life that must be formed on ones own and not solely on the oral communication or actions of others. The people around us can function build our identity, but is us who have to truly convey ourselves. Two Kinds is narrated by Jing mei Woo, a young young lady whose receive pushes her to become a prodigy tiddler. At first she liked the idea because she would be able to reach her mother happy, but later gets locked in a deal over her identity. People rely heavily on the expression others perceive them; however your true identity is formed chiefly on how you perceive yourself.
As a electric razor Jing Mei was pushed by her mother to become a prodigy child. Her mother, who was originally from China, moved the family to America where she thought anything was possible. On arrival, she saw Shirley synagogue on television and insisted Jing-Mei had the capabilities to become a child actress. The rush as a child actress didnt work show up well for Jing-Me, but with a new hair expressive style and an increasing amount of self-confidence, she began looking forward to her future fame (Tan 516). At that time Jing-Mei believed that she would soon become a child star.



Jing-Mei states, In all of my imaginings I was filled with a sense that I would soon become perfect: My mother and father would respect me (Tan 516). 
Perfect in Jing-Meis mind was satisfying her mother and she was voluntary to do anything her mother inadequacyed of her. She was more implicated with making her mother happy than finding her own happiness. She was willing to change her identity to fit her mothers wishes thus far if it meant becoming something she wasnt. 
Although Jing-Mei didnt have the abilities to become a child actress, her mother was still sure she would become a child star and had her perform near impossible tasks every night.
