Sojourner Truths original name was Isabella Baumfree. She was born in 1797 in Ulster County, smart York to mother Elizabeth and father James Baumfree. She was one(a) of thirteen children. A year prior to the New York State emancipation of abolishing thrall, she was promised liberty by the Dumonts.
