In The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains, the author, Nicholas Carr gives an in-depth description of the advances in technology and what tack these advancements have done to our society. Carr gives examples of the effects of several different types of fresh technology provided concentrates just aboutly on the effects of the Internet. In this paper, I will apply Carrs idea of the Internet as a medium expressive style people read and ferment information to my own experiences as a reader. I will focus, specifically, on my reading process; how it is changed, for better or worse, depending on such things as music genre and the impact of the medium on the process. I agree with about aspects of Carrs but think that there are nigh positive effects of the Internet that he overlooks.
Like most authors, Carr has an pursuit in what he is writing and researching. Carrs interest in the effect of technology was sparked when he realized that his witticism was beginning to change. He states, My mind isnt goingâ€"so far as I can tellâ€"but its changing. Im not thinking the way I used to think. I feel it most powerfully when Im reading (5).

He continues to explain that he used to spend hours, without a loss of concentration on reading but how that is rarely the case anymore (5).
