perfect Christianity was written by Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis and published in 1952. Lewis has been highly regarded as one of the most intellectual and influential Christian thinkers of the 20th century. As an atheist, he entered Oxford in 1917, and eventually taught as a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford from 1925 to 1954. It was during that time that he underwent a curious development. In 1931, after many arguments and talks with his colleague and friend, J.R.R Tolkien, Lewis had a conversion experience, which was described in his autobiography, Surprised by Joy. Lewis was genuinely interested in presenting a reasonable case for Christianity thence three books arose: The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and of course Mere Christianity. Interestingly, much of Mere Christianity actually came about from scripts for some of his radio talks.
Lewis does a skilled job in presenting the ideas in this book. He takes complex ghostly ideas and reduces them down to their basic supposition. His vivid use of analogies makes even the most theologically challenged reader start to understand. His logical and step by step reasoning reflects his scholarly, skeptical nature.



He hardly gets up of himself when explaining the inner working of Christianity and when he does, he quickly step back and progresses in a clear, articulate manner.
Lewis makes his intentions clear in the preface. I have thought that the best, perhaps the only, service I could do to my unbelieving neighbors was to explain and defend the belief that has been habitual to nearly all Christians at all times (pg. VIII). He is not concerned with the petty disputes among denominations, and asserts that those points of high Theology should neer be discussed except in the presence of fellow Christians. His endeavor is simply to lead you into the hall of mere Christianity. It is your job to construe out which room you should settle into.
